In Loving Memory of William “Bill” Atkinson
May 31, 1982 – May 16, 2025
William “Bill” Atkinson passed away peacefully on May 16,
2025, after facing cancer with strength and grace for the past five years. He
was 42.
Bill was a man who lived with depth and heart. He leaves
behind his beloved wife, Hayley, and their two daughters, Liah and Rebecca—his
greatest joys. He is also mourned by his parents, Steve and Janet Atkinson, his
brother Ben(Kathryn), his sister Amanda, his much-loved “outlaws”, numerous
nieces and nephews, and the many people whose lives he touched as a friend, family
member, neighbour, mentor, and professional.
Bill was raised across Western Canada, between Sooke, BC;
Hay River, NWT; Drayton Valley, AB and finally Nanaimo, BC, Bill built a life
full of purpose and generosity. After graduating from the University of British
Columbia, he became a Chartered Professional Accountant and acquired his
uncle’s accounting practice—growing it with care, commitment, and a genuine
connection to his clients. His faith remained a guiding force throughout his
life, and he dedicated time to his church community and served with integrity
on the Board of Regent College.
Bill’s curiosity knew no bounds. He was a skilled pianist,
an adventurous cook (especially with his beloved smoker), and a bit of a
kombucha alchemist. He could fix anything, master any piece of tech, and always
had a new interest or hobby brewing. Whether playing games, driving his car,
fishing, or simply laughing over coffee, Bill brought joy, intelligence, and
humour to the moment.
Those who knew him remember a man who loved deeply, listened
well, and made others feel seen. He had a sparkle in his eye and a silly streak
that delighted his friends and family—especially after a good sleep-in.
A proud resident of Burkeville in Richmond, BC, Bill’s
legacy is one of quiet faith, thoughtful friendship, and deep love. He will be
missed beyond words.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Saturday
June 14, 2025 at 11:00am at Harvest City Church in Vancouver. In lieu of
flowers, the family welcomes donations to one of Bill’s favourite charities
such as the Regent College Foundation or the Driven Project.
You are invited to leave a personal message for the family.
