Walter Rasmussen

August 5, 2023

Born: December 31, 1954 in Calgary, Alberta

Died: August 5, 2023 in Langley, British Columbia.

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the untimely death of Walter Albert Rasmussen.  He was the third of four children born to Nels S. and Bernice Rebecca Rasmussen.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Vickie Elaine (nee Ginter); his daughter Shannon Marie; one brother and two sisters.  Tom Rasmussen has two children, John Rasmussen and Angie Rasmussen.  Children of John and Jaime Rasmussen are Reid and Zach.  Walter’s sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Roy McKay have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.  Walter’s youngest sister Gail and brother-in-law Larry have two children.  Jasen and his wife Chrissy have a son Trayton and daughter Hayden.  Jennifer Ann and Ricky Davenport have two children, Brooke and Cohen.

Walter was a drywall finisher by trade.  He spent the majority of his life in Calgary then North Vancouver.  He moved to Langley in 1990.  There he met and worked with his best friends, Warren and Kathleen Boles and Jimmy and Ruth Williams.  Walter, Warren, and Jimmy were known as “the three musketeers”!

It was in April 2000 that Warren and Kathleen introduced Walter, (with Siberian Husky Mooki Blue) and Vickie, (with baby orange kitten Garfield).  Vickie considered Walter and Mooki Blue to be a “two for one sale”.  Mooki Blue was Vickie’s introduction to Siberian Huskies.  Mooki and Garfield got along incredibly well!  Over the years Walter and Vickie shared an incredible passion for Siberian Huskies!  With the sudden death of Mooki Blue at the age of 14 in 2016, a month later Vickie surprised Walter with baby photos of Kira.  Kira became became a “Ray of Sunshine” in our lives!  Kira was meant to join our family.  Wanting a “playmate” for Kira, Raya was added three years later.  She was chosen when Walter and Vickie left for their honeymoon in 2009 and stopped to visit the breeders who lived north of Kamloops.  Indeed, after spending several visits together that summer, Raya chose to join our family.  We are grateful to have had professional photos taken of Kira and Raya before Kira’s death in 2019.  Laika, our fourth Siberian Husky was added to our family in 2020.

There will be a Celebration of Life on August 28 at 7:00 in Fort Langley at:

Vickie and Walter developed a strong love of Siberian Huskies during their life together.  In remembrance of Walter a possibility would be a donation to Langley Animal Protection Society.
