TOM HALE

1937-2021

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad and friend Tom (Thomas) Leonard Hale.  Tom passed suddenly on January 13, 2021 in his home one month short of his 84th birthday.

Tom is survived by his cherished wife of 63 years, Nita, and their daughters, Teri (Perry) and Andi.  And forever remembered by his siblings Ken and Helen and their families.  And dear family friend Sandy and dear friends across the provinces.

Tom was born in Toronto and loved his mom (Rose) immensely. He cherished and carried her memories always. He shared stories of growing up, cottage days on Balsam Lake; he was a natural swimmer, playing basketball and hockey. He was drawn to sports all his life and especially loved watching hockey games on tv with his wife Nita.

More recently he enjoyed crosswords, reading, beer, bacon, peanuts, the races and visiting the casino. He was also a lifetime stamp collector.

Tom was ambitious and loyal to his work of 40 years in wire and cable (Phillips). Moving up in the company he relocated his family across Canada from Toronto to Winnipeg to Calgary back to Winnipeg and finally settling in Coquitlam, BC. His warm and caring nature led to many strong friendships among his co-workers and customers. Especially best friends Glenn and Bruce.

Tom’s greatest joys were family and love of pets and animals. “A good man” is how everyone first describes him. A gentle and patient man who loved unconditionally. He was more a listener and his words would exude wisdom, wit and humour.

Tom did not want a ceremony or celebration of life, only some kind words. His family will share some pictures and videos on a site for family and friends. (including one made 4 years ago for his 80th birthday that he especially enjoyed) https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0dGY8gBYG4vwyW

Thank you dad, Tom. You will live on in our memories and hearts forever.

You are invited to leave a personal message for the family.

Best boss anyone could ever want.   Most caring and loving individual dedicated to his family and his work family.      Although we didn’t talk much we tried to get together whenever I got back to Vancouver.      My deepest condolences to Nita, Terry (Peri) and Andi.     Your father was very proud of you girls.

I have many wonderful memories of Tom, Nita and their two girls Teri and Andi especially when we were next door neighbours in Calgary.  He had a great sense of humour but sometimes you had to sit next to him as his responses could be quite quiet though sometimes hilarious.  When we had the occasional party, Tom would warm up to dancing at around 11 o'clock at night and we would all call out "Tom's up!'.  I am so glad that we have managed to remain friends all of these years.  Safe journey Tom!

My thoughts of Tom evoke memories of fun, laughter and heartfelt discussion complimented by his professionalism, leadership and guiding hand through several transitions with Phillips Cables. Condolences to Tom's family.
