Stephen Gamble

August 8, 2025

It is with great sadness and sorrow, I share the passing of my beloved brother, Stephen J. Gamble, of Powell River, BC on August 8, 2025.  He had just turned 71 in July and leaves behind his sister, Lois of Mission, BC and many, many friends from the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver area.  He is predeceased by his parents, Alvan and Jean Gamble and his brother Timothy C. Gamble of Ottawa, Ontario.

Stephen grew up in Unionville, Ontario and graduated from Ridley College, where he played on the school’s hockey, cricket, gymnastics and rowing teams. He then moved to the West Coast, to attend Trinity Western College and UBC and met his best friends, Dave and Scotty (SAGA). He worked for BC Transit at Oakridge, North Vancouver & the Sunshine Coast Depots. He moved to the Sunshine Coast in the early 90’s lived in Roberts Creek and Sechelt and recently retired to Powell River. The outdoors, gardening and fishing were his favourite pastimes. From his first boat, Mr. Bim, to his charter business to the boat now sitting in his driveway - he loved the ocean. He was always working on various projects, but things would always pause for his beloved BC Lions' games. His gregarious nature and his generosity meant he affected many people and aside from his many human friends, he always had 2 or 3 cats to love and spoil as well.

An informal Celebration of Steve’s Life, will likely take place in the Fall.

I am so sad to learn of Steve's passing. He was a good (and funny!) friend, and we would meet regularly for lunch when I was in town. He'll leave an incredible void, and I feel for his family and other friends, who will miss him so.

Miss him every day.

It was only a couple weeks ago that my wife Paula and I asked “what ever became of Steve Gamble?” Like many, our lives intertwined with Steve’s at Trinity Western College. Despite the many years since then, Steve was one of those students whose presence made our experience in Langley so memorable. He was an ever present, effervescent and uplifting classmate. Never did one encounter Steve without it being an uplifting and rewarding part of that day. And so it was that here we are, more than a half-century later, still thinking of Steve and wondering how his life had progressed, and how he had embraced whatever came his way.

So we are uplifted once again to see his smiling face, and learn of the joy he received and gave in turn in his life spent there in British Columbia.

In my TWC annual, Steve wrote a note mentioning our shared name, and meeting again in heaven, and then included this verse. “Matt 6:33 - But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Well done brother Steve. See you later.
