Royston Bywater

September 3, 2022

Royston James Bywater passed away peacefully with his wife of 67 years by his side, in the early morning hours of September 3, 2022 at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock BC.  He was 94 years old.

Roy was born in Bristol, England.  As a young man he had quite an adventurous life, from riding the countryside on his motor cycle to serving in the RAF as a peacekeeper in the Middle East.  His adventurous spirit took him to Canada while in his early 20’s and back to England where he met Joan, his wife, in 1955.   His intrepid, slightly rebellious spirit didn’t subside however, and they emigrated twice more to Canada and the second time, to Vancouver BC, stuck!  Roy always believed that Canada would provide the family a better life. He was rightly proud of his accomplishments in his career as a tool and die maker in the aeronautical industry which is the most demanding for a machinist and he loved to fish, camp, go shooting, and play snooker.  Roy was never happier than when he was making or fixing something in his workshop.

Roy and Joan had 4 children, and many grand- and great grandchildren.

His tender heart was kept well hidden, but all who truly knew Dad, saw it.

He will be deeply missed by us all.

Messages of Condolence

Roy, a friend for many years.  A man of many talents and abilities.  I remember him fondly as stubborn yet willing to listen and sometimes make changes.  Roy  often came over as strong and determined to do things his way  but I knew many parts of Roy that many may not have.  I was privileged to listen to his heart many times and cried with him.     He had an extremely soft side, compassion which he hid well.    I was so pleased to be able to spend some time with him in his last days and sing a few songs/hymns with him when he was no longer able to speak.   I knew he could hear as when I stopped he would pull my hand.    But then again perhaps he was saying thank you for stopping.   LOL

Condolences to family.   love Sue

On the occasion of Roy's inurnment at Sunnyside Lawn Cemetery

A man of many accomplishments

Of belief in the power of 'try'

Of looking to the future

His was the steady eye.

Unafraid of responsibilities

To set sail for a distant land

Ready to face what might befall

His was the steady hand.

A life of courage and conviction

Difficult though it may seem

Attains the grand fulfilment

His was the steady dream.
