Roland Alphonzo Haynes, born on February 17, 1942, in Castries, St. Lucia, graced the world with his extraordinary creativity, insatiable curiosity, and infectious optimism. His creative spirit found expression through his music, groundbreaking multimedia innovations, and captivating photography. Roland's affection for urban life led him to reside in diverse cities such as Paris, Montreal, Los Angeles, and, since 1987, Vancouver, British Columbia.

After a brief illness, Roland passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023 on the palliative care unit at St. Paul’s hospital, surrounded by the warmth of love and the power of prayer. He leaves behind a profound legacy of inspiration, evident in the bonds of friendship he nurtured, the melodies of his music, and the visual stories he captured through his lens.

Roland is survived by his devoted wife, Celia Tang, and his cherished sisters, Miriam, Joy (Gilmore), and Jessie. He is also remembered by his beloved nephews, Jason and Michael, his dear niece, Charece, the extended Mitchell, Haynes, and Francis families and close circle of friends. Roland is predeceased by his parents, Florence Haynes (née Mitchell) and Dr. Ralph Haynes. Celebration of Roland’s life will be held in Vancouver at the Oakridge Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1:30 pm, October 6, 2023.

With great sadness I read the obituary of Roland. His beautiful smile shines through the page. Roland was a man of dreams, a gifted artist and a true optimist. His musical talent was an inspiration. I will never forget his laughter, his creativity, his continual striving to achieve. He worked so very hard. Rest easy dear Roland. Sending my love and deepest sympathy to family and friends.
