Penny Slater: 12/12/62-03/13/23
Penny April Beryl Slater was born in Canmore Alberta on December 12, 1962 to parents Beryl Nanny May Lefley (May 9, 1924-Oct 15, 2002) and Stanley Clifford Garland Slater (Jun 12, 1917-Aug 10, 1962)
She is survived by her daughter Tegan Storer and granddaughter Faera Beryl Storer, sisters Linda (Chick) Paller and Gwen (Larry) Duthie, brother Dan (Shayan) Jones, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.
Predeceased by brothers Brian, Garry and Guy (Kathy) Slater.
Penny was full of laughter and always down for a fun time, she was happiest sitting around a fire with the ones she loved and swimming in the lake. Penny had a great voice and she loved to karaoke. She loved Christmas and decorating for the holidays. She was a crafty lady with creative projects on the go regularly-whether crocheting, making wreaths, pinecone baskets or flower arrangements. She had an eye for detail. Penny was a terrific cook. She spent many years working in rig camp kitchens and was oftentimes requested as first cook by the consultants. She really enjoyed her time out in camp and all the friends she made there. She would do anything for those she cared for; always willing to lend a hand or ear or ride- no matter the distance. Penny was a wonderful grandmother, mother, sister, aunty, niece, cousin and friend. She will be missed greatly by so many.
The celebration of Penny's life will be announced closer to summer and warmer weather.
You are invited to leave a personal message for the family.

One of my first and fondest memories of cousin Penny was during the summer at Pine Lake, AB. Pine Lake was once upon a time a great gathering place for the Lefley’s, LeBlanc’s, Riva’s, Conlin’s, Paller’s and Stainthorp’s. Hiking along the shoreline with my cousins Jim-Bo, Colleen, Carmen, Penny, me and my sister Frances. Hunting blood suckers to sell for .60 cents/dozen to the fisherman. Looking for the big“Papa-juniors” as Jim-Bo would exclaim! Laughing, squealing, exploring and bonding as cousins do. I’m so thankful for those carefree times. As an adolescent, I found myself always looking up to my older teenaged cousins like Carmen and Penny. Watching and wanting to be like them, thinking they were so cool! I’m forever thankful for those fun and everlasting memories!
Penny was certainly a creative women. Paying attention to the littlest of details. Always crafty and creating. Always spoke of her daughter & grand daughter. Always willing to help out and hang out! Never did I ever have a dish I didn’t like that came from Penny’s hand! She was a master in the kitchen too!
I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to Penny’s family. I know she was deeply loved and will be missed terribly.

Penny was such a vibrant person, always smiling and making everyone around her smile too with her funny jokes and great sense of humour. Well Aunty Penny we never made the Inside Passage as we talked about but when Ron and I do it, you’ll be there in spirit. I will surely miss our 1am chats. 🥰. Rest now, go find your brothers and see you when it is my turn. Everyone will look after your loved ones. You still owe Ron an apple pie. All my love, Laura and Ron xxxx

My heart is broken to hear of Penny’s passing. I’ve just now seen this . My deepest condolences to all. I met Penny when we worked together at Humpty’s Restaurant. This was back in the 80’s. We lived together for a while too. I fondly remember when Tegan was born and my Dad would sometimes baby sit both my daughter and Tegan. We kept in touch as well we could over the years and been lucky enough to visit a few times, and through video calls and texts. I just received 3 beautiful knitted dishcloths from her this month. I will cherish them. I love you forever Penny.

Thank you for considering me a daughter, Penny! You’ll always be Mama The Second. Help us from above: we will continue to make you proud down here.
When I see you again, I can’t wait to jump into a big pool of shimmering light, understanding the true meaning of calm and finally laughing about all the silly chaos below.
Love you forever, and eva eva.
