Olga Mahowich

March 4, 2024

Mahowich - Olga (nee Chorney) left this life quietly on the morning of March 4th 2024. Olga was born in Vegreville, Alberta, on March 30, 1929 to Steve & Teklia Chorney.  Olga married Joseph Mahowich, the love of her life in Mundare Alberta in 1948.  Then they moved to Vancouver to raise a family. First settling in Vancouver Heights and then relocating to Kitsilano and eventually into the family home on West 10th where Olga resided for 73 years. Olga & Joe enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 42 years.

Olga was very close to her mother and spent many a summer back on the Chorney farm helping out.  Olga dedicated herself to raising her children Darrell & Tina-Marie and cared for a foster child, Kody.  During Olga's working career she had many jobs which started by waiting tables at a local restaurant, then to Woodward’s Cafeteria with the occasional special event at the Vancouver Lawn Bowling club. She also worked for United Flower Growers Distribution Warehouse where she developed a love for all flowers.

Olga made many good and longtime friends over the years. Olga was a caregiver and over the years cared for many family members in their family home.  She dedicated her senior life to volunteering locally and travelling.  Olga was full of fun and always liked to keep busy. She and her niece Ollie even ran a seniors bus tour business. If she wasn't out volunteering at the Stroke Recovery Group you could find her in her kitchen cooking up a feast, or in the garden or visiting at her kitchen table. Olga loved life and the friends and family close to her.

Olga is survived by her brother Mike Chorney, son Darrell, wife(Bev Sass), daughter Tina-Marie, god-daughter Gayle Choney and many wonderful nieces and nephews (Evelyn, Ethan, Angie, Linda, Dal and Olive Stogren to name a few) as well as many great nieces and nephews.  Olga is predeceased by her husband Joseph(1990), sister Annie Maze(2002) and brothers William(1972), John(1973), Peter Friend(1994), Paul Friend(2018) father Steve(1973) and mother Teklia(1985).

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation BC.

The memorial Mass and interment for Olga and Joseph will be at Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery, 15694 32 Ave, Surrey, BC V3Z 9V1 on April 13th 2024, at 12:00 noon.

A celebration of life will be held at the Mahowich family home in Vancouver the summer of 2024.

Every day, in some small way,

Memories of you come our way.

Though absent, you are ever near,

Still missed, still loved, and ever dear.
