Michael Edward Povey
August 10,  1943 - September 25, 2025

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts to announce the passing of Michael Povey, on September 25th, 2025, after many years of battling Parkinsonian Dementia.

Michael knew at all times, how much he was loved and cared for by his wife Marianne of 26 years. 4 children, 2 stepchildren, Welsh family and many many friends and long time business associates.

Michael was full of kindness, honesty  fairness, trust, empathy and open heart in all of his endeavors.

Beautiful memories of Michael’s passions and interests were, his 1970 Morgan 4/4, British car meets, cycling in Europe and Cuba or just to UBC from Horseshoe Bay, playing Rugby at Brockton Oval, South America, Japan, New Zealand, a long time member of the Meraloma and Evergreen rugby clubs, starting and successfully running a Human Resources Labour Relations business.

Born in Neath, South Wales, Michael’s  career started at the age of 16, when he decided after a year of engineering that he did not want to work in the mines of Wales, headed off to London to become a Bobby. In 1968 emigrated to Canada, to school for a Masters Degree, and worked in the mining sector as Director of Human Resources, till starting his own firm, called The Fifth Option, which was a great springboard for conversation and interest.

Near and far, thank you to dear friends and family for your unforgettable love and understanding, being present every step of the way.

Heartfelt  appreciation for the overall kindness and patience during Michael’s long journey to Louis Brier Home and Hospital, and to Paul Sugar Palliative Support Foundation.

Memories of Michael, hopefully will continue to be a source of comfort, connection and inspiration for years and generations to come.

In Michael’s memory, donations greatly appreciated to:
Louis Brier Home and Hospital
Paul Sugar Palliative Support Foundation.
