Melvin Barry Sievert

24-01-1945 to 27-08-2024

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Melvin Barry Sievert, 79, of Galiano Island on August 27th. His final moments were spent peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Mel was born in New Westminster, BC, on January 24th, 1945, and left us on August 27th , 2024 to join his parents Arthur and Evelyn, his sister Diane and his brother Ernie. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Carol, his children, Cory (Brie), Lana (Mike) and Troy (Thea) and his 5 grandchildren, Nolan, Holly, Tristan, Weston, and Eva. His brother, Terry (Wendy), his nieces and nephews, and his large group of friends that were like an extended family. Known for his larger-than-life presence and outgoing demeanour, Mel will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Mel’s family asks that he be remembered for the joy he brought to others in life not the sadness of his passing. He will be forever loved and remembered. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Grandpa was more a father to me than a friend That I loved so dearly

the years of adventures, the family times and the enjoyment we had spending it will never be forgotten

My condolenses to Carol and family.  I first met Mel through my brother, Erik when he was about 16 years old.  He was such a charmer!!  My last memory is that of a visit to his last home in White Rock before his passing.  Jack and I gave him a run for his money in a wheelchair race.  I will always remember the big grin he had on his face as he looked at Jack!!  He will be missed.  Rest in peace Mel.  Lots of love.

Mel always made the world brighter. He was one of the most amazing men I had the pleasure of knowing. He always said Lloyd was the luckiest man on earth, because he had me as a step-daughter. But the truth is, I was the luckiest girl on earth because I had Mel’s unconditional love. He will always be in my heart, and will always be remembered.

My love to the everyone xoxo

I wanted to share a story about my wonderful Uncle Mel. When I was 12 on a family camping trip on Galiano during the summer as we did for years growing up, I was sliding down the banister down to the wharf and Uncle Mel said "Dylan don't slide on the banister you might fall off." Of course being a kid I didn't listen and the next day sure enough I went over the edge and Uncle Mel not only caught me with one arm and saved me from falling to the rocks 30 feet below, but lifted me over the railing still with only one arm, like a superhero. A stronger man I have never met, but at the same time the most kind and gentle. Anyone lucky enough to get a chance to meet my Uncle and talk for more than five minutes, 20 years later would say "Mel Sievert, what a hell of a guy I remember him."

At the Celebration of life last week, well over a hundred in attendance, not a single person would refer to him as anything other than family. He was an amazing man I am so proud to call my Uncle, I miss him calling me Elvis.

My heart goes out to Aunty Carol, Cory, Lana and Troy.

I love you Uncle Mel
