It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Ann Pedersen (Deane) on August 9, 2024. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario on June 16, 1952 to Robert and Betty Deane. She was a spitfire from the start. Never one to back away from a challenge and always followed it with a hard hitting punchline. No one was spared from her unique brand of humour. In her younger days she loved camping and nature, road trips (windows up though, donβt mess the hair) computers, reading and a good horror movie. She had a passion for animals and adopted many dogs through her life from the BCSPCA. In her later years she loved colouring, visiting family and her beloved granddaughter, Daphne and her dog, Baily. She prided herself on her long career as a medical transcriptionist which began in 1972 in a psychiatric hospital and carried out until her retirement at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Mary was 10lbs of sass in a 5 lbs sack. She was the biggest personality in the room although she was only 4β11β. One was never really prepared for what could come next from her.
She is survived by her children Christina (Sharbel) Pedersen and Robert (Rosanne) Pedersen, granddaughter Daphne, sister Elizabeth (Richard) Boulton, nephew and nieces Jason, Sarah and Emily Boulton.

My sincere condolences to the whole family. Mary was a strong personality and she was the reason I survived and stuck it through my long term position as an moa. She always encouraged me and brought a smile to my face with her sass and fantastic humour. She will be missed dearly. πππ

I knew Mary when we were classmates at Delta Secondary School in Hamilton. Mary was Ms Personality plus. I loved her sense of humour and her zest for living. I will always have fond memories of Mary. My sincere condolences to Her Family.

I am deeply saddened to learn about Maryβs passing. I will forever cherish the special memories I have of her and the profound impact she had on my life. Regardless of what others may think of me, I hold an immense gratitude for Mary and her children. During the darkest time in my life, she extended her kindness to me without hesitation. She offered me her friendship, her home, and her meals. She filled my days with laughter, taught me so much, and, most importantly, became the parental figure I needed at that time.
Mary was incredibly proud of her children and her beloved fur babies, and her love for them was always so evident. My deepest condolences go out to the entire family. I hope Mary watches over them always, guiding them with that incredible spirit we all knew and loved.
