Couver Chan (陳國和) passed away
peacefully at the age of 90 in Richmond, BC on Monday, May 20, 2024, from Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his spouse Maggie, daughter Fatima
(Pedro), son Gabriel (Amy), son Vincent (Sanaz), and 3 grandchildren Katelyn
and Kenzo (Gabriel), and August (Vincent).
Born in Canton, China in 1934, Couver survived
the second world war, and grew up living a simple life - he enjoyed reading,
writing and learning. His scholastic accomplishments won him scholarships and he
attended South East Radio College (東南無線電專科學校) – one of the top three technical schools in Hong Kong at
the time, where he graduated as an electronics
engineer. He worked in journalism at the Union
Press, was a faculty member at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (香港中文大學), and an entrepreneur - pioneering and designing radio and
television signal receiver antennas in Hong Kong.
Couver immigrated to Vancouver in the 1970s and worked in various roles
including automotive repair and instruction, and journalism. He was an active
member of the Vancouver Tsung Tsin (Hakka) Association (溫哥華客屬崇正會) and after retirement, he enjoyed home life, volunteering, travelling, and
(finally!) grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the care
staff, the nurses and the doctors at Hamilton Village Care Centre and Richmond
Hospital for their kindness, care, and patience towards Couver, as he prepared
for his journey back to God.
Chapel service will be held on Friday,
June 21, 2024, at 1:30 pm at the Evangelist Chapel at Gardens of Gethsemani,
