ASH, Kenton (Kent)

July 6,1953 – August 15, 2022

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandpa and friend. Kent will be forever cherished and missed by his loving children Kristan Ash and James Wynne (Langley), Aaron Ash and Lisa Hau (Vancouver), Sarah Ash and Glenn Mitzel (Port Coquitlam).  Kent's true legacy and pride and joy are his grandchildren whom he adored dearly, Carter, Aynslee, Jeremiah and Parker. Family and friends were very important to Kent, his parents Jim and Mavis Ash, brother Don and Florence Ash have all passed before him and were waiting to welcome him.  He loved and is loved by his two brothers Barrie and Joanne, Grant and Deb and all Kent’s nieces and nephews.  Last but not least, Kent will be missed by his young Grandpup’s who he loved, Benny, Wallee and Lucy.

Kent was born in Regina, SK, attended Kitchener School and then Scott Collegiate where he created friendships that have lasted a lifetime.  He spent his summers at the Ash Cottage on Katepwa Lake where he spent time with his family, friends and cousins as a kid eventually transitioning to the place to watch his kids, nieces and nephews grow and explore. After highschool Kent moved to Calgary to study and work as a rehab aid with persons living with physical and mental barriers, here he lived with a group of people who became like family, Bill (cousin) and Brenda Huntley, Dennis and Donna White and the rest of the crew. Whether he was working in construction with his dad and brothers, supporting people with limitations finding work, teaching skills to parents who needed a bit of extra help or supporting youth and people who were struggling with life.  He cared deeply and saw all people for who they were without any judgment …  “we are all just people”.

Kent was a medical miracle dealing with complex, chronic health issues for over 40 years.  During this time he allowed many healthcare professionals through the years to learn with him.  He set goals and met them right up until his last breath. He relied on the healthcare system and it kept him alive for many years, the family will be forever grateful to his Family Doctor, Dr. O’Brien “Dr. O” and the office team at the clinic “the ladies” and all the specialists who worked on the team, especially Dr. Stolar.

The family will always be grateful for the special and professional care provided to Kent by the amazing staff at Langley Palliative Care and Home Support who helped us keep our promise that he never had to go back to another hospital and he could pass at home.

You made your mark and now you are free to travel the world, we love you!

You are invited to leave a personal message for the family.

We were blessed to have known and loved Kent for  50 plus years, he was a kind and gentle compassionate man with a great sense of humour and a heart of gold.  He will be missed but never forgotten, physically gone but forever held close in the hearts of those who had the honour and privilege of loving him and being loved by him.

Will always Remember Kent as my fellow advocate that there should be 4 points in football when the kicker hits the post on a field goal attempt.  Many happy days watching the riders with Kent and Al.
