KONDRAT, KATHLEEN (nee Ryan)
September 03/42 – July 27/24
With a collective sadness we say goodbye to Kathy; wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, extraordinary friend, and founder of Blacklace Flat-Coated Retrievers.
Born September 3, 1942, in Winnipeg, MB, Kathy met Walter, married in 1961, and therein moved to BC where they raised their family of four daughters: Lori (Brian), Kerri (Ian), Jana (Dave), Jodi (Brad).
Having worked in a variety of industries, Kathy found her true passion in a veterinarian’s office where she reveled in her connection with animals.
In 1989, it was ‘Woody’ – her first Flat-Coat and pride & joy – who was the catalyst for her more than three-decade career in breeding, showing and growing her kennel name in North America. Highlighting her vast achievements in the Flat-Coat world was having one of her dogs win Best of Breed at the prestigious Westminster dog show in New York.
She leaves her husband, four daughters & partners, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and son-in-law, Randy Erbacher.
Kathy left this life with the same gusto she lived it; ‘just keep trucking on’ and ‘one foot in front of the other’.
Her optimism, humour, mentorship & friendship will truly live on in those she touched.
Hers was a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kathy’s name to the BC SPCA or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Kathy, You let Mulligan be there for me, for us. I'm heart broken that you both left this world too soon. Be with him, with them. Love, Ryan.

This was written beautifully! Many fond memories of our families hanging out and your mom was always smiling . My deepest condolences and hugs to your all.

So sorry to hear about Kathy's passing. We only met her once when picking our beloved puppy up from her 8 years ago, and as we were pulling away, the tears in her eyes were proof of how much she loved her work and her dogs. Her work will live on in our dog and remind us of your Mom.
