Kathleen Patricia Coristine, lovingly known as Kay, passed away on December 25, 2022, at the age of 86. Born on March 27, 1936, to her parents Joseph Albert Coristine and Nina Elizabeth Courson, Kay was a beloved music teacher and mentor to hundreds of accordion and music theory students.
Kay's passion for music led her to establish a teaching studio in the basement of her home on East 15th Avenue in Vancouver. She dedicated many years to teaching accordion and music theory to her students, helping them hone their skills and develop a deep love for music. She also entered many of her students into the Kiwanis and Coquitlam music festivals, and some of her students competed out of province.
Kay was a lifelong learner and achieved several academic degrees while teaching full-time. In 1976, she graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She also studied at BCIT, where she obtained a Diploma of Technology in Health Information Technology in June 1982. Her academic achievements led to many years of employment at St. Vincent's Hospital in Vancouver, where she excelled in her role as a Health Data technician. BCIT also recognized Kay's academic excellence by awarding her the prestigious Technology Academic Award.
Kay will always be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her unwavering dedication to her students, and her love of music. Her impact on her students will be felt for generations to come.
