JESPER HALSE

Jesper (Jess) Bo Halse February 12, 1966 - February 14, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jesper (Jess) Bo Halse, Langley, BC on February 14, 2026.

Jess is survived by his loving wife, Josie DiNicolo; stepchildren, Anthony Ellis and Amanda Ellis (Dax Olson); sisters, Marie Nielsen and Mia Blakey; nieces, Alina and Taja; mother, Helene Elisabeth Nielsen; and stepfather, Peter Nielsen. Jess is predeceased by his father, Kenneth Armstrong.

Jess was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on February 12, 1966. He spent his first 9 years in Denmark and the next 5 years in both Edmonton and Onoway, Alberta.  Following Alberta, the family moved back to Denmark for a year where Jess attended International School for pre-university studies. Jess spent 1985 and 1986 in Dublin, Ireland and continued his studies with International school.

In 1987, Jess and his family moved to British Columbia, where they planted roots. Jess later spent several years in Terrace, BC. While Jess was living in Terrace, he was offered a position with BC Hydro and this again, would changed the direction of his life.

Jesper Halse was a proud Freemason and also belonged to the Royal Arch Masons of British Columbia and Yukon.  His Masonic journey began on the 10th of June 2004,  when he was initiated into Freemasonry.  He passed to the Follow Craft Degree and, in November 2004, he was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason in Kitselas Lodge No.123 in Terrace, B.C.  Jess was given the honour to serve as this Lodge’s Worshipful Master in 2009 by his fellow Brethren.

In early 2005, Jess’s passion for Freemasonry led him to apply to Kalum Chapter No.37 of the Royal Arch Masons in Terrace, B.C.  He received the Degrees of a Mark Master Mason and Most Excellent Master the same year.  In September 2005, Jess was exalted to the Supreme Degree of the Holy Royal Arch.  Excellent Companion Halse served as the 2nd Principal of the Kalum Chapter in  2010 until his move out of the District.  He treasured his brethren and his teachings and conducted his life with the same morales and values.

In 2009, he met and later married his wife, Josie.  Jess and Josie were married on May 22, 2011 and decided to settle in Langley, BC.

In his earlier years, Jess worked in I.T. and geomatics with various companies until entering into BC Hydro in 2009. This where  he spent the last 17 years thriving in various positions and enjoying the challenge and the diversity of the work as well as the opportunity to work with a variety of incredibly talented coworkers and superiors. He embraced every challenge that was brought forth and always gave 100%, if not more! At work with BC Hydro, he was in his element.

Throughout his years, Jess found joy in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. He was an avid skier and was part of the avalanche patrol team when he was in his early 20’s. He enjoyed fishing and being on the water and was thrilled when he bought his very own Hewescraft Boat.  He loved target shooting at the local rifle range, tinkering and working on various vehicles, and riding his Harley Fatboy motorcycle. Jess was intrigued by science, chemistry and even physics so it was no surprise that he made his own Parmesan cheese, alcohol, smoked salmon, and beef jerky.  He enjoyed putting his vegetable garden together in the spring and spending time in the backyard, tending to his vegetables.  Jess had an incredible soft spot for all animals and could often be found snuggling on the couch, on a rare downtime, with one of his many dogs and his cat. He had a passion for music of all genres and occasionally you could even find Jess dancing with Josie to ballroom dances, Latin dances of various styles, and he even ventured to try Bhangra. For several years, he served on the Board of Directors for the Fraser Valley Italo-Canadian Society and even for one year, served as Vice President. Jess thrived on information and technology and he always enjoyed researching and learning a new skill.  He found a great satisfaction in continuing his education and furthering his knowledge of various technological advancement as well as his managerial skills. His travels with Josie brought him to Mexico, the Dominic Republic, several locations in the USA, and in 2015 finally travelled to see Milan, Rome, and Sicily.

Jess loved life; he adored his family, his brethren, his friends, and his coworkers.  He brought his infectious smile and calmness with him everywhere he went and was always ready to converse on any topic. You never knew with Jess if he was joking or being serious but one thing for sure, he always had your back, your best interests in mind, and a generous heart.

A memorial service for Jesper will be held on April 25, 2026 at Langley Events Center from 1pm-5pm. The family encourages you to come, celebrate Jess, and share your memories and stories.

Messages of Condolence

Hi there,

I had the opportunity to work with Jess for a few years, would have been around 2016 - 2019.  Jess was wonderful to work with - you mention his calmness, and it was felt by everyone.  Wherever he went, he brought his calm approach with him and it created a positive environment for everyone.  He was level headed, and did a fabulous job of making everyone feel heard and included, a great manager all around. I am so very sorry for your loss and hope that in time the memories will bring comfort and a smile.  Sincere condolences to you, the family and all who knew Jess and will miss him.
