It is with great sadness that Barbara and James announce the loss of their son, James John MacFarlane (Jim)who passed on March 16 of complications from pneumonia.

James John was 64.
Affectionately named Jamie by his sister June, and Brother J by his sister Lynne, Jim was a talented cook, a gifted landscaper and could be found playing ‘Pied Piper’ to any children lucky enough to be in his vicinity. As a young adult Jim travelled widely to explore the waters as a deep sea diver - enjoying Brunei in Asia in particular and, as well, in the Indian Ocean. On his retirement from diving and his return to Vancouver, Jim explored many of his interests including, but not limited to, an eclectic collection of model cars, hot sauces, and lunch boxes. He tried his hand at home renovations as well as being an enthusiastic gardener and an avid car enthusiast.
Jim was a good friend to many and will be remembered fondly.

Jim was a dear friend whom I my knew for the past 15 years when I lived in the Kits area in Vancouver. He was always very kind and generous and we had a lot of great dinners and good times. Jim came up to the Okanagan, where we went to wineries and e-biking with friends.  I will always have fond memories of  that trip. He was a hard worker and a creative innovator both indoors and out. Let me express my deepest condolences to all his family and his friends near and far. He will be dearly missed.

Rest in peace to Uncle Jamie. I’ll never forget getting stuck in the Vancouver snowstorm, the way he offered me coffee, how excited I was to get to go for rides in his fancy cars and how I figured he was superhero, the way he talked about diving. His stories will always stand out, and he is dearly loved and missed.

Jim was my uncle, and such a memorable one!

When I was a kid fishing off the dock, I dropped my rod and it sank to the bottom. No problem with Uncle Jim around though - he geared up and swam the 20-30 feet below the dock and brought my rod up. I can see it all still. He was a heck of a hero then.

I always enjoyed what a character Jim was. He was so unique. I don't think he ever looked at me without a smile.

I will remember him as he always was for me - smiling, eccentric, excitedly talking about his latest passion.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. We had many wonderful years and adventures together. Trips to Thailand, California, Arizona… taking the ski boat across Georgia Strait to camp on Saltspring Island to name a few. Adopting the best cat ever, Frazer, that Jim picked out from a warehouse litter. Although after we went our separate ways our connections were sporadic, I always wished the very best for Jim. My deepest condolences to his parents, sisters and family for their loss.
