Jack Herbert McLeod
February 11, 1946 - November 3, 2023
Surrounded by the love of his children and grandchildren and with his beloved wife by his side, Jack passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2023 at the age of 77.
Predeceased by his parents Edna and John (Jock), brothers Robert (Bob) and Terry, sister Judy and brother-in-law Ralph Ginter, and sister-in-law, Sandra Walton.
Family was everything to Jack. He leaves behind to mourn Karen, his loving wife of 57 years, sons John (Wendy), Allan (Joeline), daughter Heather Bennett (Steve), grandchildren Sarah, Tyler, Isabel, Haley and Katie, along with many nieces and nephews.
Jack grew up in Quesnel (Bouchie Lake) and returned to Vancouver in 1965 where he met the love of his life, Karen. They were married in Toronto in 1966.
Jack worked in Toronto and Vancouver in his early years in retail hardware. In 1975 he broadened into landscape contracting under the name “Kan-Grow.” He had a passion for construction and built his family two homes in the Surrey area. He loved camping and the outdoors. Trailer life was his happiness.
The ‘McLeod Corn Roast’ he initiated annually for 45 years, always inviting every neighbor on the street to attend. Everyone was welcome.
His most successful role though was being “Papa” to his five grandchildren. He taught them all to play games and only cheat when necessary!
To know Jack was to be his friend. He would truly give you the shirt off his back. He will be greatly missed. Til' we meet again.
A celebration of Jack's life will take place November 26th, 2023 in Chilliwack.
You are invited to leave a personal message for the family.
Our condolences to Karen and Family
Dear Heather, my cherished soul sister, 🤗
In moments like these, words often fall short, but I reach out to you with a heart full of empathy and a wish to offer some solace. The poet Kahlil Gibran once said, “For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.” In the ebb and flow of life, your father, Jack, was a remarkable river, his life’s journey a testament to the beauty and strength found in the currents of existence.
Though I never had the privilege of meeting Jack, the stories you've shared have painted a picture of a man deeply loved and respected by all. From his early days in Quesnel to building a life filled with joy, love, and laughter with Karen, it’s clear he was the very heart of your family, a beacon of strength and love.
Your father's warmth and charisma shines brightly in the tales of the ‘McLeod Corn Roast,’ a tradition that echoes his spirit of community and togetherness. This is a perfect way to celebrate his journey and to say goodbye. And as a grandfather, his playful, loving nature, teaching life’s playful tricks to his grandchildren, always reminded me of the joy and simplicity of life.
In this time of loss, I hope the love that surrounds you and the cherished memories of your dad bring you comfort. Jack’s spirit, a beautiful blend of generosity, love, and a zest for life, will forever resonate in the hearts he touched.
Heather, please know that I am here for you, to share stories, offer a shoulder, or simply sit in silence. The legacy of your father, a legacy of love and unity, is a gift that will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew him.
Sending you all my love and deepest sympathies in this challenging time.
With love and heartfelt thoughts,
Krishma 😘
