May 1925 to October 26, 2021
Inger Gobeil passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 96. Inger’s life began in the fairy
tale setting of Odense, Denmark where she lived until immigrating to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with
her parents, Soren and Augusta, and brother Borge in 1927.
Inger attended Nutana Collegiate before going to secretarial school. Inger had a beautiful voice
and she joined a singing troupe called the Victorettes. When leaving a performance for the troops,
a handsome young cadet knocked on her window, asking for a date.
Inger and Robert (Bob) Gobeil were married just a year later in 1944. After the war, they began to
build their family.
They moved often for Bob’s career – from Saskatoon to Vancouver to Ottawa to Montreal to Saskatoon
and back to Montreal again. Through it all, Inger demonstrated resilience and fortitude, building
life anew. She sewed clothes for her children and herself, volunteered at the local library, joined
a quilter’s guild, played countless rounds of bridge, golfed and curled, all while nurturing her
growing family. In the later years she accompanied Bob on business trips around the world. They
celebrated several children’s marriages and welcomed 4 grandchildren before Bob died, leaving Inger
a widow at age 58.
Four years later, she moved back to the west coast and began another happy chapter of her life
close to her father and brothers. She joined Newcomers, continued quilting and playing bridge, and
became involved in local politics. She made White Rock the family gathering place for many
wonderful celebrations over 32 years.
Inger is survived by her brother Clifford; her children; David (Lee), Richard, Deborah (Colin),
Marianne (Morley) and Christopher; grandchildren Jacqueline (James), John (Suzanne), Lindsay
(Andrew), Stephanie (David), Allison, Laura, Andrew (Christine), Sarah, and Alexander (Karen);
great grandchildren Jillian and Adam. Her husband Bob, son Denis and his wife Nancy predeceased
her.
She will be forever in our hearts.
Internment will be held in Montreal at a later date.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Westminster House, Surrey BC, especially
Josephine and Sherryl.
