Helen Anderson

December 19, 2020

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Helen Anne Anderson of Richmond. After many years battling cancer, she passed away on December 19th in her sleep.

Born on August 31st in London, Ontario to Clifford and Violet Branston, she grew up with three siblings who survive her, Harold Branston, Carl Branston, and Marion Alferi. On December 17th, 1960, she married Ian Anderson and they had two children, Lisa and Stuart. During her long life, she moved across Canada and taught in various cities. In 1974, they permanently settled in Richmond, BC. After teaching for over 20 years, Helen completed her career as an ESL teacher with the Surrey School District.

Helen spent her retired years travelling between the homes of her children to spend time with each family. Her grandchildren were a source of tremendous joy for her. Helen and Ian also spent each year travelling down the American west coast every spring to golf and spend time with friends. She was always, "neat as a pin" and stylish to the end of her days. She was also a resilient woman who fought cancer three times during her lifetime before succumbing to the disease. Throughout it all, she kept her smile, generosity, and devotion to her family.

She will be fondly remembered and cherished in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind her husband Ian, daughter Lisa (husband Joey), son Stuart (wife Anne), and her grandchildren Janis, Kayla, Brad, Daryl, Kirsten, Scott, and great-grandchild Anna Helen.

Our sincerest gratitude to the caretakers at Richmond Rotary Hospice who helped make her final moments in this world peaceful. She felt truly cared for in their presence.

There will be no funeral service. Her last request was for those who feel generous to kindly donate to the BC cancer foundation.
