Evelyn Hyde

March 1, 2022

We celebrate the life of Evelyn Florence Hyde, whose passing on March 1st at the age of 93 completes the rich and vibrant tapestry of her life.

Through her many life chapters, growing up in Vancouver, her marriage and partnership of 58 years with Gordon, living in Saskatchewan, the Fraser Valley, Bermuda, and finally back in Vancouver, some profound themes will be remembered by those who knew and loved her.

A deep, abiding Christian faith. This was established during her early years at Collingwood United Church, the source of many enduring friendships. It continued through her active partnership with Gordon on his many ministerial postings and was sustained late in life with the invaluable Centering Prayer group at Pacific Spirit United Church. This curiosity and desire to learn led to so many meaningful conversations. We are thankful for the peace it gave her.

An appreciation of music. Vocal training and piano were early passions for Evelyn, and a life spent serving the church afforded her the opportunity to surround herself in the beauty of music and fellowship of choir. In later years her involvement in the community choir kept her active and engaged, meeting new people and making new connections. We are thankful for the joy it gave her.

A selflessness of time and energy. Her willingness to hear others when they were speaking, and to give her insight when she knew it was truly needed, made her a special listener. A clear sense of justice led her to support numerous causes and ideas both in her personal life and in greater society. These are ideals we all can strive for. We are thankful for this legacy she leaves us.

Evelyn, Mom, Nana, thank you for everything. We are all blessed for having known you and we will keep you in our hearts forever. Love, your family and friends.

A memorial service for Evelyn will be held at Pacific Spirit United Church on Friday, March 25th at 11:00am.

Messages of Condolence

We enjoyed so many happy years of friendship with our families and each other-- often at Wilson's Landing, or on our sailboat, Ireland, Bermuda, Pender Island and early years in Kelowna.  We are thankful for so many years and memories.

As we write this, we are sitting looking out over Okanagan Lake. It is hard to believe how quickly those special years went. We will be watching the service tomorrow in Tannedleftwrist at WL, which seems fitting.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.  Your mom was such an important part of your life. She will be deeply missed. May God bring comfort. I, Wendy, look  forward to watching our four parents relive their wonderful years ans memories together in eternity.
