Elmer Sorocan

November 27, 2024

Elmer, a life long ironworker, dedicated teacher, mentor, loyal union member and activist, peacefully passed away November 27th 2024, in Vancouver B.C. At the age of 89.

Known for his talent and love of ironwork, loyalty to Union Local 97, mentoring and teaching his fellow tradesmen and a wild sense of humour, he leaves behind a legacy of skill, activism, kindness and fond smiles that will be remembered by all that knew him.

He found his calling and took immense pride in the field of ironwork.

Mentoring countless people not just on skill, but value in the work and camaraderie.

Teaching at Pacific Vocational Institute and the ongoing Interprovincial Exam Courses throughout his career.

A staunch advocate, he championed fairness and equity for all his fellow tradesmen.

Beyond his work, Elmer was known for his boisterous spirit, sharp wit, love of good music, family and friends, good food and better wine.

His unique and wild sense of humour combined with his animated story telling ability, brought people closer together.

Simply by sharing some laughs or lessons learned.

You could find him at Heros "club" (legion # 177) most days in retirement, playing cards and having one with friends.

He is predeceased by Mike (Mika) and Mary Sorocan (father and mother), Ruby Smigel and Pat(sy) Sorocan (sisters).

He is survived by his Daughter Jennifer, her (mother) Carol Kirkpatrick, (sister) Rhonda, (brother) Greg Cunliffe, whom he was proud to call Son,(grandchildren) Tasha Cunliffe and Tori Cunliffe, (nephews) Chris Smigel (Colleen) and Randy Smigel (Liz)
