A Life Full of Adventure  Our dear mom Betty passed away peacefully after a short illness, leaving to remember her with love and laughter her children Maureen, Bob, and Ian; many nieces and nephews and their children, extended family, and dear friends. Betty was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK, predeceased by her parents Leta and John (Cameron) MacTavish, her brother Alan; and her loving husband and best friend Richard (Dick) who passed in 2019. Mom trained as a nurse in Moose Jaw, graduating in 1953 and moving to Vancouver the next year with her best friend Sheila (Mason) Dennis, working in the Maternity department at Burnaby Hospital. At some point one of her nursing friends asked Mom to come along with her to the travel agent as some of her nursing friends decided they wanted to travel and work in Australia and New Zealand. Next thing you know, Mom found herself sailing overseas, spending nearly three years Down Under, coming home when she started to get homesick. She was glad to have traveled in her life and very happy that we kids have traveled as well, as “it gives you other outlooks on life”. In 1962 Mom met Dad at a hospital dance. When they married in September of that year and started their family in Tsawwassen, Mom became a full-time homemaker. It was a busy time, full of activities, and as her children became school-aged, Mom had time to become a volunteer with the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society.  This was a wonderful opportunity for Mom. She made many dear friends through the Auxiliary, and took on the challenge of wearing many different hats within the Auxiliary Council. Mom spent a term as President, as well as Past President. She saw the benefit of the Pillow Pal program at a regional conference, developing and coordinating the program and its volunteers for both Delta Hospital and Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, which she continued to guide until she passed. We would appreciate memorial donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society, 5800 Mountain View Blvd., Delta, V4K 3V6. Online: www.deltahospitalauxiliary.org/donations/. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 15th in the Fraser Room at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel, 15269-104th Avenue, Surrey. Please join us to remember a very special lady. RSVP via email: mgoosen@shaw.ca, or text 604-790-2050.
