Born in Saskatchewan on July 7, 1930 to Erhard and Margareta Schroeder.
Dorothy was hoping to reach her 90th birthday but she was short a month.
She was the third of four children. Nettie, the oldest, and brother Ted, have gone before her. The youngest of the four, Helen, is the only one remaining. She has 4 nephews, 3 Schroeder boys and one Reilly. Of the 3 nieces, one has preceded Dorothy afew years ago. My husband, Bruce Reilly, and our son, Nathan and I lived with Dorothy off and on for over 30 years. At an early age, Dorothy became a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. She loved to meet with other believers in Christ.
She had one stepdaughter and two stepsons. Peter Jr., the youngest is still living. There are several step grandchildren, and many relatives on her husband side.
She was born in Saskatchewan and then moved to Alberta, and from there to BC. She worked for years in Vancouver at various jobs but the longest and most rewarding was as a Nanny to many children, several of whom kept in touch to the very end. In between the jobs in Vancouver she moved to Winnipeg and met Peter Wiebe to whom she was married for 17 years. Afew years after her husband died, Dorothy moved back to BC. And once again worked in Vancouver.
10 years ago, she was diagnosed with Cancer but with treatment it seemed to be in remission. But eventually it began poking its head up in various places in her body until finally 2 years ago she decided not to do any more treatment and in December of last year, 2019 she was admitted to the hospital in Abbotsford . .
She spent a month there and then was transferred to the Holmberg Hospice, in Abbotsford, where the staff looked after her in a wonderfully caring way until May 28, 2020, at 10 pm she was released from this earthly body.
