David Putney

February 11, 2025

David Brent Putney, known as Dave by co-workers and neighbours. Friends and family called him Brent. Or as he was also affectionately known as "Putney!". Brent was the youngest of three children born to David Putney and Linda Putney (nee Rynard) on January 23, 1971 in Calgary, AB.

Brent was a very active boy and participated in hockey, soccer, cycling and even figure skating to hone his skating skills. As a teenager, he was an avid skateboarder and stood up for the rights of kids to have a place to skate. He also loved music and taught himself to play the guitar among other instruments. He was the singer in many bands with his friends and they played all over Calgary.  His desire to have a career in music brought him to Vancouver, BC where he eventually met his wife in 1997 at a local pub. He would say she was staring at him and she would deny it. They were together almost every day after that.

Brent had many jobs over the years including working in restaurants, construction and landscaping. He went back to school to become a Network Technician and he started his own IT consulting business. After a short time, he decided to stop working for himself and landed an amazing opportunity for a career in IT. During this time his love of music never stopped and he continued to play with friends and mix music on his own.

After many years of struggling with infertility, Brent and Millie were blessed with their son Jackson. Brent’s family were his everything. For their 20th anniversary, Brent and Millie married in the Rose Garden at Queen's Park. He was loyal and supportive to his family. Brent's last year with his family was spent as a stay at home Dad. He took great pride in managing the household and being the primary carer for Jackson.

Brent is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 27 years, Mildred "Millie" (nee Mendiola) and their son Jackson. “Always remember that we love you.”

He is survived by sister Brenda (Rod) , nephews Braeden (Sara), Brody (Adrianna) and niece Rylea (Jordan); nephew Kyle Rose (Tyne). Brent was predeceased by his sister Kerry (Richard).

Brent gave Millie countless gifts over the years but left her with the greatest gift she will ever receive, their son, whom she is devoted to raising to be a kind, loving man and remembering all the good times with Daddy.

The man I married was kind, thoughtful and forgiving. He was my best friend and someone I could count on for anything and everything. He took care of us and taught us more about life in ways we didn't even realize. I will be forever grateful that I had the opportunity to love him. His soul was a bright light that never had a chance to fully shine.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 6, 2025 at the Centennial Lodge in New Westminster for family and friends. Please email  millieputney@gmail.com  if you wish to RSVP. Those who cannot attend in person will be able to join virtually.

We are forever grateful for his presence in our lives and look forward to the day when our souls will meet again.
