Carl Harry Baber passed away September 7th, 2022 at 72 years old following a lengthy battle with diabetes and dementia. He will be missed by family, friends and the Fraser Valley community.
Carl lived with his heart on his sleeve and his windows rolled down. Born on October 24th, 1949 to Ruby Helen Kathleen Baumgartner and Harry Duncan Baber, Carl grew up in Manitoba and Saskatchewan with his younger brothers. As a young adult, an entrepreneurial spirit and thirst for adventure brought Carl to work on a dairy farm in Abbotsford; it was fixing broken tractors that ignited a passion for mechanics that drove him. Carl grew his skill to manage or own towing companies and shops in Vancouver and Hope (A-Part Auto Wrecking and Van-Hope Towing and Repairs), and gained a name for himself as a trusted person to get a family in need back on the road. He built hot rod cars and bikes in his spare time, loving nothing more than the freedom the open highway had to offer.
Carl found spiritual connection in nature; he spent his leisure time fishing and had a lifelong love for the Fraser River- he moved from the Fraser Valley several times through his life and always felt driven to return home. He could frequently be found on the shores, helping a kid reel in their first sturgeon or baking fresh salmon over a fire with family and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Chantelle Hope, who meant the world to him. His children Jason Baber and Chereena Baber and Grandchildren Sam Baber, Tabitha Baber and Hayven Hope will continue to tell stories of his colourful life and his “live fast, love hard” attitude. Always joking and willing to have a good time, Carl was a bright reminder to choose joy and authenticity in everyday living and to never lose sight of fun in the face of life’s challenges.
