K. Allan “Al” Cuzen

November 14, 1931 - February 26, 2026

Al Cuzen passed away peacefully at Evergreen House in North Vancouver on February 26, in his 95th year. Al is survived by his son Bradley and partner Nobutoshi; his sister Bev and husband Bob; his brother Grant and wife Shannon; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary; his sister Shirley and husband Bob; and his parents, Ena and Al.

Born and raised in North Toronto, Al’s early years were shaped by his father’s diagnosis with polio, which resulted in the loss of the use of his left side. Al became his father’s hands, learning skills in electrical work, plumbing and woodworking, in which he found much joy and accomplishment throughout his life.

Al was a graduate of the University of Toronto (Victoria College) and earned his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation. He worked for the City of Metropolitan Toronto and later Georgian College in Barrie before establishing his own accounting practice. He served on the boards of several local organizations (notably the Barrie Kiwanis Golden “K”) and lent his accounting and leadership skills to various charities and arts groups.

A talented tenor who loved music, Al sang in church choirs, the King Edward Choir, the Gospel Four quartet, and the Simcoe Songsters. He was a long‑time member of Central United Church and later St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Barrie, where he made many cherished friendships. Al relocated to North Vancouver in 2022, attending Highlands United Church.

Al was a loving father to both Bradley and Nobu. A thoughtful and reliable friend, he was a man of few words who showed his care through quiet steadiness and simple kindness, greeting everyone with a bright smile. He will be deeply missed.

The family wishes to thank the incredible staff at Sunrise Lynn Valley for their care of the past few years, as well as the support and love of dear friends and the Highlands community.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 15 at 2pm at Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Blvd, North Vancouver, BC, with a reception to follow. For those who wish to view the service remotely, please click this link: Allan Cuzen Memorial

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highlands United Church, or to a charity of your choice.

Messages of Condolence

My sincerest condolences on the passing of your father.

I only knew your father through the choir Central United Church. Wonderful memories!

He always presented himself as a true gentleman, a wonderful singer in the choir, and a true family man who praised his wife and son.

Sincerely

Joan Mercure

Your Dad, lived a good long life.  As you mentioned he was quiet and kind.  I was on a couple of committees with him at Central United Church .   You will have great memories of your Mom and Dad to look back on. I will keep your family in my thoughts.

Bradley and Nobu,

What a lovely tribute to your dad.

Getting to know your dad was a real joy. Such a gentle, kind soul. Every minute spent with him was a pleasure and honour. Thank you for opening up your heart and home to me.

Love and hugs,

Tamara

Al was also a pillar of the Barrie Concert Association, the Colours of Music and Georgian Music (chamber music) series for many years.    For decades he rarely missed a meeting of the Christian Business Ministries Committee.    Al's late wife, Mary, was steadfastly at his side through his many community related activities.   They were energetic and amusing.   They were good company.   They were always devoted to their son Brad.

Al will be missed.

I was a room mate of Bradley’s at Redeemer College.  Allan (Mr.Cuzen) was such a beautiful kind man!  He and his wife were always so kind and friendly to visit with.  I know Bradley J. had a deep bond with each of them.  It was so special that his Dad could move out west to be closer to them.  He will be missed. His faith was very important to him.

In the short time that I knew Al and Bradley, they left a lasting imprint on me.  I can still see Al's smile and the eyes that held such warmth and character at the same time.  He had a lovely soul, and Bradley, the apple does not fall too far from the tree!  One of my favorite memories is seeing Al's whole face literally light up the moment he spotted Bradley.  This news is held with a heavy heart, but I also feel grateful to have walked some of this journey with you.
